Case Study Background
Working in partnership with Kier WSP, PGR Construction was contracted to replace a 27m pedestrian footbridge crossing the River Nene in Elton, Peterborough.
The original bridge was installed in the 1940s and had begun to corrode, making it unsafe and reducing loading capacity. As a result, the bridge had been closed to pedestrian access since 2016.
The Challenge - Remote Site Security
Given the site's remoteness and the value of the tools, machinery and materials required to complete the project - sourcing a cost-effective and reliable security solution presented a major challenge for PGR Construction.
Adding to the challenges facing PGR construction, the remoteness of the site meant there was no site power, so any security solution provided would have to be completely autonomous.
The Solution - Managed Construction Site CCTV

The security solution deployed at the site was WCCTV's Solar Fuel Cell Tower, a completely autonomous all-in-one security system.
The 7m, bright yellow Tower provides an obvious deterrent to criminals. It also delivers live and recorded video and alarms via 4G connectivity, and is self-powered by renewable energy backed by a methanol fuel cell - making it the ideal security system for off-grid sites.
All WCCTV's rapid deployment CCTV systems are backed by a fully managed service, including equipment installation, video monitoring, audio challenge, and ongoing maintenance and support.
The Result
Throughout the project, the WCCTV Rapid Deployment CCTV Tower provided robust security, predominantly as a deterrent to any opportunist theft.
There were no reported thefts from the site, enabling the project to complete on schedule with the avoidance of any costly delays or losses.

WCCTV's Rapid Deployment CCTV Towers contain additional video channels, allowing for the addition of HD time lapse video cameras as a value-added service to our comprehensive security package.
WCCTV's team of installation engineers ensured the specialised time lapse camera captured the whole worksite. At the end of the project, our video editing professionals created a short-form video to bring the project to life.
The time lapse video has delivered huge branding and PR benefits for PGR Construction, who shared the clip across their social media channels, driving engagement and website traffic.
