Case Studies
Project Background
As part of Nottinghamshire Council’s Safer Streets Project, Broxtowe Borough upgraded their analogue cameras to our state-of-the-art CCTV cameras following funding in hopes of curbing anti-social behaviour and other criminal activity within the area.
Building on its previous success within other areas of Nottinghamshire, the Safer Streets initiative continues to be rolled out further, utilising multiple methods such as clean ups, new CCTV and upgrading to electric bikes to help tackle key community issues.
In partnership with Nottinghamshire Police, Broxtowe Council and others, it was identified that Beeston town centre was one of the key locations where funding could have the best effect in reducing anti-social behaviour, shop theft and cycle theft.
The Challenge
Beeston is recognised as a vibrant and thriving area and Nottinghamshire Council wanted to ensure residents and visitors felt this also, however, issues surrounding anti-social behaviour and other criminal activity that would take place there left some of the community feeling unsafe.
Especially during the darker evenings where crimes such as anti-social behaviour became more common.
This type of crime can prevent individuals from entering the town centre at night due to the lack of safety they may feel and heightened risk of crime that might be present at this time. Overall, this can impact not only the safety of residents and visitors, but the vibrancy in which Broxtowe Council prides itself on.
The Solution - Redeployable CCTV Cameras
Nottinghamshire Council invested in our Redeployable CCTV Cameras as part of this project to help reduce anti-social behaviour in public spaces, improve safety and capture criminals in the act.
Equipped with advanced night vision capabilities and 24/7 monitoring and evidence gathering software, it ensured that Nottinghamshire Police were supported around the clock, so they could respond to incidents quickly and help with any subsequent legal proceedings.
Additional features such as the visual and audio deterrence also allows them to prevent criminal activity happening in the first place, reducing the need for the Police to intervene and allowing them to place their attention on active cases.
By utilising one of WCCTV’s security solutions, Nottinghamshire Council receives a fully-managed service that monitors and assesses threats appropriately.
Their portable design also allows them to be utilised elsewhere if another location within the Broxtowe Borough would be deemed to benefit from them or even further afield in line with the Safer Streets initiative.
Alongside other methods to tackle specific criminal activity within the community, our CCTV cameras gave overall security support as well as the additional benefits available with WCCTV.
The Result
Following the implementation of our CCTV Cameras along with Nottinghamshire Police and Broxtowe Borough Council’s ongoing work in the area, there was a 66% reduction in burglaries, a 45% drop in vehicle crime and a 27% decrease in anti-social behaviour.
Councillor Helen Faccio commented on the security support provided through the CCTV in the following statement: “I’m delighted that thanks to the Safer Streets funding, the works to install the new CCTV across Beeston have been completed, just in time for the darker evenings.
“It’s really important to make sure our residents feel safe, which is why the cameras cover key hotspots across the town in order to deter criminal and anti-social behaviour.”
This success continues to push the initiative into other areas of Nottinghamshire and ensure more communities feel safe and be proud of where they live.
