Case Study Background
Manchester City Council contracted Galliford Try to construct The Glade of Light, a memorial to those who lost their lives in the 2017 terror attack at the Manchester Arena.
The families of those lost were able to provide personalised memory capsules containing mementoes and messages, which have been embedded inside of a white marble halo at the centre of the Glade of Light.
The official opening of the memorial is due to take place in time for the fifth anniversary of the attack.
The Challenge - Site Security and Time Lapse Video Requirements
Given the site's location in the heart of a busy metropolitan area, Galliford Try needed a proactive security system to protect their worksite from trespassing and eliminate the risk of plant theft that would cause significant delays to the project.
In addition to their security requirements, and owing to the significance of the project, Galliford Try were keen to capture a time lapse video that would document the construction of the memorial.
The time lapse video would allow Galliford Try's project management team to keep the Council updated with progress and provide an engaging overview of a significant project.
The Solution - WCCTV Construction Site Security Services
Having provided managed CCTV cameras to several previous Galliford Try projects, WCCTV were the preferred choice to supply security services to the site.
WCCTV deployed its Fuel Cell Site Towers, a self-powered CCTV tower system, backed with a service that included installation, alarm monitoring, ongoing maintenance, support, and performance reporting.
The WCCTV Fuel Cell Towers stand 7m tall and are painted bright yellow, making them an obvious deterrent that helps prevent trespass and intrusions onto sites.
They contain in-built 4G transmission of video and alarms,
Additionally, Rapid Deployment CCTV Towers feature secondary video channels that allow for the addition of high-quality time lapse video cameras.
This allowed Galliford Try to capture all the critical milestones of the construction phase without commissioning two separate contractors to provide video services.
At the end of the project, WCCTV provided a fully edited video that has been shared across multiple digital platforms, generating publicity for Galliford Try and Manchester City Council.
As a Greater Manchester headquartered business, WCCTV waived all costs associated with hiring and producing the time lapse video as a gesture of support to the project.
The Result
WCCTV's managed CCTV services ensured that Galliford Try's worksite remained protected at all times throughout the construction. This prevented any potential losses or delays, meaning they completed the project on time despite the challenges caused by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
The Time Lapse Video footage has been widely shared across multiple news outlets, helping to raise the profile of all involved in the project and serve as part of the legacy of a fitting memorial.
