Case Study Background
Working on behalf of Highways England, CRL (Concrete Repairs Limited) were part of a major consortium tasked with replacing the Moreton North Bridge on the M53.
The bridge, which carries a slip road over the main motorway, needed urgent replacement; otherwise, a weight limit would have to be applied – causing many local businesses to be adversely affected.
Moreton South Bridge had undergone a similar replacement project in early 2015.
The Challenge - Site Security and Time Lapse Video Requirements
Construction site crime remains a major blight for the industry, with approximately 6000 break-ins per year, resulting in up to £800m of costs associated with equipment loss and project delays.
CRL wanted to ensure that all value plant, materials and tools were secured at all times, as any loss of equipment or damage caused by trespass or vandalism could lead to costly delays. As traffic flow was being rerouted to facilitate the project, hitting all construction phase deadlines was critical for all parties.
Additionally, given the project's scale, CRL was keen to produce a time lapse video to promote their involvement.
CRL's leadership team understood the value of video marketing and intended to use the video to help promote the companies core capabilities and drive engagement to win new business.
The Solution - Rapid Deployment CCTV Towers
WCCTV has established a reputation for providing the UK's highest quality construction site security services, so the Company was seen as the natural choice to secure such a high profile infrastructure project.
To secure the site, we provided its Rapid Deployment CCTV Tower, backed by a fully managed service that included installation, alarm monitoring, ongoing maintenance, support and performance reporting.
WCCTV's Towers are 7m tall, bright yellow, obvious deterrents that help prevent trespass and intrusions onto sites before they occur.
They contain in-built 4G transmission of video and alarms,
The HD Fuel Cell Towers features inbuilt methanol fuel cell cartridges to provide complete power autonomy, allowing the Tower to be deployed at the remotest of sites.
Due to the market-leading design and technology of WCCTV's towers, they are optimised for lower power draw - allowing for up to 12 weeks before a refuel is required.
Additionally, WCCTV's Towers feature secondary video channels that allow for the addition of high-quality time lapse video cameras.
This allowed CRL to capture all the critical milestones of the construction phase, including removing and demolishing the old bridge, without commissioning two separate contractors to provide video services.
At the end of the project, WCCTV provided a fully edited video shared across multiple digital platforms by CRL and national media outlets, Highways England, and regional press.
The Result
WCCTV's managed security services ensured that the site remained protected throughout the construction. This allowed the project to keep to timescales despite the challenges surrounding the coronavirus.
The time lapse video was picked up and shared across multiple publications, helping drive engagement for all project members.
