Redeployable CCTV Use Cases

As the UK's leading supplier of Redeployable CCTV cameras, WCCTV outlines some of the key deployment scenarios for these mobile surveillance systems.

As the UK's leading supplier of Redeployable CCTV cameras for over 20 years, WCCTV explores both the typical and more innovative deployment scenarios for our mobile surveillance systems.

Most of our Redeployable dome cameras are highly overt surveillance units installed to prevent and reduce crime in hotspot areas. We recently outlined the positive impact of overt CCTV systems and how they affect the recorded subject.

However, we have developed a diverse customer-driven product set over our two decades in business that has seen our systems deployed for many applications.

Safer Streets Initiatives

In 2021, the UK government announced plans to enhance community safety by making millions of pounds worth of funding available to police and local authorities.

The money was for investment in measures proven to cut crime, including simple changes to the design of streets such as locked gates around alleyways, increased street lighting and the installation of CCTV.

There have been several funding rounds, each focusing on cutting crimes such as anti-social behaviour, acquisitive crimes and making streets safer for the most vulnerable.

Several PCCs have been successful in funding bids precisely because of their plans to use Redeployable CCTV systems. Due to their portability, redeployable cameras allow police forces to target crime hotspots and quickly move the cameras once the problems in a particular area have been solved.

This avoids the camera's purpose becoming redundant, allows for a continuous return on investment, and provides community reassurance in times of need.

Examples of WCCTV cameras being deployed for Safer Streets initiatives are highlighted below:

Anti-Social Behaviour

Redeployable CCTV has several significant impacts on reducing anti-social behaviour that all too often plagues streets and neighbourhoods.

Firstly, they are highly overt units; they have a clear presence in the neighbourhood which acts as a proactive deterrent to offenders.

Overt CCTV cameras are shown to positively impact behaviour, with potential offenders often deterred by their presence.

Secondly, the high-quality video evidence captured by the cameras can be utilised by police and local authorities to identify offenders and build cases for prosecutions.

Finally, the cameras can be quickly deployed to the areas worst affected by ASB due to their portability. This boosts community assurance and allows the cameras to be relocated once the issues have been resolved.

Below, we have highlighted several cases studies where WCCTV's cameras have been instrumental in reducing ASB:

Fly-Tipping Reduction

Fly-Tipping is an increasingly severe problem that blights communities and causes lasting damage to our environment.

Redeployable CCTV allows councils to target the areas worst affected with fly-tipping directly. The cameras gather vital evidence for investigation and prosecution and act as a visual deterrent to potential offenders.

If the issues move to new locations, CCTV Managers can quickly redeploy the cameras to keep ahead of the criminal element.

WCCTV's customer-driven product development has led to the company pairing its redeployable cameras with video analytics capability and ANPR technology to enhance its effectiveness at detecting and prosecuting fly-tippers.

Our ANPR cameras capture clear images of vehicle number plates linked to a national database to search vehicles of interest.

Below, we have highlighted just a few of the many successes local authorities have had reducing fly-tipping by utilising WCCTV cameras:

Covert Surveillance

Most of our use cases involve the overt deployment of our Redeployable dome cameras.

The objective of these deployments is to prevent crime and reassure communities that someone is watching out for their safety.

However, in conjunction with our police and local authority clients, we have developed a range of covert CCTV units that have successfully targeted criminal activities such as drug dealing and gang activity.

Further information on our covert surveillance CCTV (including images, technical capabilities and case studies) is restricted to police and local authorities.
