Energy Infrastructure Security Case Study
Real Results: BAM Nuttall – Pluckley Substation
BAM Nuttall, a leading infrastructure contractor, was appointed to upgrade Pluckley Substation as part of a high-voltage switchgear renewal scheme.
Throughout the project, security was a primary concern due to the presence of high-value materials, including protective cabling, electrical equipment and power tools. Adding to the complexities, planned rail strikes would cause the site to be unoccupied for extended periods.
WCCTV deployed two Solar Fuel Cell CCTV Towers to ensure continuous protection. These solutions provide fully autonomous security without the need for mains power. One Tower was deployed to the site entrance, with the second positioned to monitor the compound, protecting key assets.
The Towers were coupled with live monitoring, built-in audio deterrents and remote alarm response to prevent intrusions. The result? No reported security incidents, with BAM’s assets fully secured, keeping the project on schedule.
Kim Brown, Site Manager for BAM Nuttall, said: "It’s just secure all the time; we don't get false alarms, nothing like that. I'm just pleased with the installs; they have been good. They take it away when we ask them to, and the towers do what they're made to do!"
